This presentation explores the implications of displacement flows in the wake of Syria’s war for the international order. Focusing on the recent ‘migration crises’ that have rocked the Euro-Arab Mediterranean region, it analyses how the theme of migration has evolved into an integral component of conflict and security on the one hand and a tool of political governance on the other.

Dr. Tamirace Fakhoury is an Assistant Professor in Political Sciences and the associate director of the Institute of Social Justice and Conflict Resolution (ISJCR) at the Lebanese American University (LAU). She has furthermore been teaching at the summer sessions at the University of California in Berkeley since 2012. Fakhoury earned the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at the German Institute of International and Area Studies in Hamburg, Germany (2014/2015) to carry out research on migration and politics. She was a doctoral researcher at the ABI from 2003 until 2007.
